TIBCO ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework

TIBCO ActiveMatrix® Lifecycle Governance Framework enables governance across the entire service lifecycle from service design to development, operation, and retirement. TIBCO ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework provides an SOA registry and repository foundation as the “system of record” for your SOA artifacts and a rich set of governance capabilities enabling SOA visibility, trust, and control.

TIBCO offers an end-to-end governance solution with ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework and operational governance products such as TIBCO ActiveMatrix Policy Manager and TIBCO ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager. ActiveMatrix Policy Manager enables administration and enforcement of runtime policies for services; ActiveMatrix Service Performance Manager provides operational monitoring and management of services to ensure service levels are met.

At the core of the ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework is an extensible registry and metadata repository that provides a standards-based system of record for discovering and publishing reusable business and IT services based on business classification and usage models. It also stores and manages a wide array of SOA information related to the production and consumption of such services.

  • A consolidated repository or "system of record" for all your SOA artifacts.
  • Enhances service reuse by making it easy to categorize, publish, discover, and reuse services across development teams and departments.
  • Provides robust information governance with flexible reporting.
  • Automates design-time policy compliance.
  • Establishes trust between service consumers and service providers via transparent contract management.
  • Allows other SOA components to participate in service lifecycle governance via Governance Interoperability Framework.

Key Features

Unified Service Foundation

TIBCO ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework consists of several integrated capabilities that leverage the information (or metadata) in the registry and repository. The specific components that make up the ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework include:

  • Information Management: Provides a comprehensive infrastructure for managing the critical information associated with SOA governance. Provides support for service and change impact analysis and change management between service providers and consumers. With the Workbench and its BIRT-based reporting framework, custom reports can be created to report on governance activities, policy compliance, service re-use, and other key SOA success factors.
  • Lifecycle Management: Supports the establishment of specific lifecycles that can be associated with services and artifacts. Lifecycles can have multiple stages and polices that determine stage promotion. Stage promotion can also have assigned individual or group ownership. Lifecycles are provided by default but can also be customized, cloned, and deprecated as needed.
  • Design-Time Policy Validation: Transforms the validation of services against policies from a costly manual process to an automated effort at the click of a button. Policies such as WSDL, SOAP, XSD validity, WS-I Basic profile, etc. can be automatically checked for conformance, and the results of design-time policy validation stored for audit purposes and reported to all stakeholders. This allows customers to understand how well policies are being complied with across distributed development efforts, report on such results, and selectively or comprehensively manage and enforce policies across the enterprise. This enables customers to encourage or police design-time policy conformance based on their SOA culture and organizational needs.
  • Contract Management: Promotes trust between service consumers and service providers and encourages service reuse by facilitating the formal creation of service-level objectives and other contractual terms and conditions. These objectives capture the expectations that service consumers can have from their respective providers.
  • Governance Interoperability Framework: GIF is the industry’s first and most widely accepted specification for SOA governance interoperability. GIF allows any other SOA infrastructure component (including ESBs, security appliances, BPM tooling, and more) to contribute SOA information and artifacts, such as policies, to and reference the ActiveMatrix Lifecycle Governance Framework and to participate in service lifecycle governance across a heterogeneous SOA.
